State Executive Council

The State Executive Council (SEC) is comprised of officers and advisors. Information about the duties of the SEC can be found in the State Bylaws.

Alex Baran
President

Alex Baran is currently a sophomore at Drexel University, majoring in Finance and Economics with a minor in Philosophy. During his freshman year, Alex served as reporter of Drexel PBL and has served FBLA-PBL as a member for 7 years. In the past he helped found a local Middle Level chapter, served as FBLA local chapter President for 4 years, and as New Jersey FBLA Central Region Vice President his senior year. He has a particular interest for Business Ethics and is working on a coordinating a panel discussion on business ethics at Drexel in the coming year. In addition to his involvement with PBL, Alex serves on the Drexel Dean’s Student Advisory Board and is currently the President of the Drexel Philosophy Club. In his spare time, Alex enjoys managing his small investment portfolio, playing on his PS3, moonlight bowling, or questioning and contemplating Kant’s proposal of the Categorical Imperative. Alex is looking forward to the bright horizon ahead for PA PBL and is excited to be taking the journey with his fellow members and officers.

Tom Listwak

Tom Listwak is a 2008 graduate of Fox Chapel Area High School. He is currently a junior at Duquesne University. Tom is currently pursuing a degree in accounting. He is also a member of the student accounting association on campus. He is also a member of the PICPA organization as a student member. After receiving his degree in Accounting, he is looking forward to obtaining my MBA and CPA. Upon graduation he would like to work for one of the Big Four accounting firms. In his spare time, he enjoys running and has already completed one marathon. As a new officer he is looking forward to building upon the success that PA PBL has enjoyed for some time.




John Yang

John Yang is currently a sophomore at the University Park campus of the Pennsylvania State University, majoring in Marketing. He is an active member of Penn State Phi Beta Lambda. An active member of FBLA-PBL since his freshman year at Hazleton Area High School, John was a two-time national finalist in the Digital Video Production event and had served as both the Historian and Public Relations Chairman of his FBLA chapter during his senior year. In addition, John is actively involved in the Sapphire Leadership Program of the Smeal College of Business at Penn State and is currently serving as the Webmaster of the Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. After college, John plans to pursue an MBA in Marketing. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, watching college football and producing promotional media for his organizations.

Barbra Gehan

Barbra has been in education for 34 years teaching all levels from early childhood to adults. She has served as Senior Educational Specialist Consultant in the corporate world where she trained end user, wrote train the trainer manuals and help implemented new software applications for corporations. Barbra has been a Business Analyst for a financial company where she helped designed, developed, and implemented software applications. She holds a degree in education from Penn State and is a Certified Instructional Designer and Developer. She enjoys spending time with her husband, their four daughters and three grandchildren as well as boating.





Bob Kollar

Bob Kollar is in his second year of involvement with PBL, which includes serving as chapter advisor at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and becoming a member of the Pennsylvania State Executive Council in September 2006. Bob is currently an assistant professor of accounting at Duquesne University’s schools of business, and is also the director of the graduate business school’s Master of Accountancy program. He has been a CPA for the past twenty-five years.

Prior to joining Duquesne University as a full-time faculty member, Bob began his career with and spent 14 years working for the international professional services firm of Ernst & Young where he was a senior manager in the audit practice. After leaving Ernst & Young, Bob worked with the regional accounting firm of Schneider Downs & Co. for approximately five years as a senior manager also in the audit practice. In 2001, Bob and his wife Kellie, also a CPA, started their own CPA firm, Kuhleman Kollar & Associates CPAs, and Bob still assists some companies with their financial reporting needs in addition to his teaching and administrative responsibilities at Duquesne University. Bob was a member of FBLA during high school.





Heather Deakin

Heather has been involved with PBL since 2004. She has helped out with set-up and proctoring exams for the last two years at the State Leadership Conferences. Heather graduated with honors, from Lansdale School of Business with and Associate's Degree in Accounting Management in 2006. She went on to pursue her Bachelor's Degree from Strayer University, and graduated with honors in 2008. Heather is employed full-time as a Staff Accountant/Payroll Processor with Meeco, Inc. and Tiger Optics, a manufacturing company located in Warrington, PA. She is also pursuing her Master's in Accounting and Financial Management with and emphasis on her Certified Public Accounting Certification, from the Keller Graduate School of Management with Devry University. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, their friends and family. She enjoys ATV recreation, camping, the mountains, and scenic driving.

Robert Durney

Professor Durney (Bob) has more than 30 years of experience in education, project management, R&D and plant operations. Currently he is Assistant Professor of Business Administration at Chestnut Hill College. Previously he was an Instructor of Business Administration at Delaware Valley College. Earlier he gained first-hand experience designing processes and planning capital projects for Atlantic Richfield, a global energy company. Subsequently as Project Manager with Day and Zimmermann, a major design and construction services firm, he undertook assignments on behalf of numerous clients. Professor Durney holds the following degrees: Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Engineering and Master of Business Administration. He is also certified by the Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional.
